 Notes from the Winemaker

We’re Celebrating!

Four JG’s is pleased to announce that we have placed well in the tenth annual Finger Lakes Wine Competition!

The house favorite Chambourcin Riserva 2005 won a silver medal, and the Cabernet Franc 2007 and Chambourcin 2007 won bronze medals!

This year, more than 3,000 wines from 666 wineries, including 105 state wineries competed in this prestigious event!   This is the first time that all 50 states are represented. The event was created by wine aficionado Peter Parts as a way to raise funds for Camp Good Days and Special Times.

Chambourcin Riserva 2005

***2007***Gold Medal Winner, New Jersey State Wine Competition

***2010***Silver Medal Winner, Finger Lakes Wine Competition

Four JG’s fladship wine, Chambourcin Riserva, was awarded a silver medal at the prestigious Los Angeles County Fair World of Wines Competition, the gold medal in the 2004 New Jersey Governor’s Cup and bronze medals from the American Wine Association national competition and VinoChallenge International contest.  The Chambourcin grape is a French Hybrid with Rhone origins.  It is a winter hardy variety that has become the favorite of growers in the Middle-Atlantic states.  Chambourcin has a soft texture and spicy attributes.  Four JG’s Chambourcin Riserva is a delicate blend of Chambourcin and the vinifera grape, Cabernet Franc wood-aged in American oak for eighteen months.  The blend makes an enjoyable wine with a blackberry and spicy nutmeg and coffee herbal flavors with supple tannins.  It finishes with a pleasing taste that leaves the palette wanting more.

  Chambourcin 2004 and 2007

***2007 Medal Winner in Finger Lakes 2010 Wine Competition***

2004 "Best Hybrid and Best Estate Wine" in NJ Wine Competition - 2008"

Chambourcin is a late-ripening French Hybrid grape ideally suited for Eastern wine growing regions.  It produces a wine with intense purple color and spicy, herbal flavors.  Chambourcin's generous, full flavours of blackberry, nutmeg and herbs make it excellent for dishes that would traditionally be partnered by red wine: beef, lamb, and red-sauced pasta while its relatively low tannins makes it one of the few red varieties that can successfully be used as an accompaniment to seafood.

Chardonnay 2008

This wine is made from the green-skinned European vinifera grape. Four JG’s estate grown Chardonnay is a well balanced between acid, flavors, and body.  This Chardonnay is made from gently pressed estate grown ripe berries harvested on September 20, 2008.  Primary fermentation took place in chilled stainless steel.  Once fermentation and malolactic fermentation were completed, the clear wine is racked of the skins and seeds and placed into 60-gallon American oak barrels for about four months.  The wine is carefully monitored to ensure the right flavors are enhanced by oak aging.  This Chardonnay displays tropical flavor notes.  It drinks well with Caesar salad or simple preparations of fish.
